Interview Tips

The fact that you have been called for the interview means that you are being considered for the job. So far you have done well, but this does not mean you have the job yet. This is the point where you present yourself to your prospective employers and your aim is to impress them.

Here are a few tips and guidelines to a successful interview

  • Do in depth research on the company, specially the section pertaining to your job, this should not only impress the interviewer, but it also shows that you are interested in the job. It is even a nice idea to call the addressee before hand and ask them about the position; they would have a mental note of you at the interview.

  • Be well equipped for the interview, this means you should have everything necessary for the interview at hand, such as testimonials and anything they might require.

  • Be prepared! If it is possible, practice in front of the mirror how you would respond to some of the possible questions.

  • Be on time, 15 minutes before the time is being on time! Coming late is bad manners, it reflects badly on you and it can even cause you to fail the interview even if you are the suitable candidate for the job.

  • Go alone to the interview, no friends and family.

  • You should be formally dressed, not with too much jewellery and make up, and when you decide to wear perfume, put on something light. Ladies this does not mean you should wear a night gown, something business looking should be fine. Be neat and presentable, these are some of the first things people look at when you walk in the room.

  • Smile often and be polite to all as you enter. You might have caught the elevator for one of the interviewers.

  • Always be and truthful in whatever you say. The truth has a funny way of crawling out of the closet.

  • Body language should radiate confidence and positivity. Sit up straight and look the interviewer in the eye. When you give answers be brief and straight to the point, avoid YES/NO answers.

  • Ask questions again, about the company, the position, and when you can expect the answer.

  • Do not smoke, chew gum or chew your nails please! This is a big NO!
